Deforestation is one of the
major problems in the Amazon, which has been occurring since the 1980's. The
problem with deforestation is that it disrupts the cycle and live-style of the
plants and animals, causing many animals to have to find a new home; it also
destroys the natural foods that we find in the rainforest. In the past four
years the amount of deforestation has dropped to just under 5000 sq. km.
Although this is still a very high number it is nothing compared to the amount
which was being deforested in 1995, which was close to 30,000 sq. km. The main
reason deforestation is occurring is for cattle ranches, agricultural areas, for
growing things like soy beans and also a minor factor of logging.
